BKT’s twp™ integrates Proteus+ and Mainstream AMX to treat wastewater in 3 hours, reduce energy use by 60%, and support climate goals in developing countries.

Leave No One Behind
At BKT, we believe that access to clean water is not a privilege—but a basic human right.
That’s why we reject so-called “appropriate technology” that compromises water quality in developing countries.
Instead, we pursue the highest standards—for everyone, everywhere.
Innovation Born from Necessity
To address urgent water challenges in developing countries—especially equatorial regions with year-round high-water temperatures—BKT developed the tomorrow water process (twp™).
This revolutionary solution combines Proteus+ and Mainstream AMX to deliver:
✅Maximum energy recovery
✅Minimal energy consumption
✅Compact footprint and infrastructure savings
✅High-quality efficiency in less than half the time required by conventional systems
What Is twp™?
twp™ integrates two of BKT’s most advanced treatment technologies:
🔹 Proteus+
A chemical-free, high-rate physical filtration process that efficiently removes solids and organics.
By recovering more organics at the front end, it enhances biogas production and reduces energy demand downstream.
🔹 Mainstream AMX
A biological nitrogen removal process that consumes 60% less energy and requires no external carbon sources essential for energy autonomy.
Traditionally used only in sidestreams due to sensitivity to low temperatures, BKT’s Mainstream AMX has now been validated in warm-climate environments like Los Angeles, making it ideal for equatorial developing regions.

How it works: Process 123
twp™ completes full wastewater treatment in just 3 hours through an integrated, high-performance sequence::
- 1 hour – BOD and SS removal (Proteus+)
- 2 hours – Nitrification (Proteus Secondary)
- 3 hours – Nitrogen removal (Proteus+ + Mainstream AMX)
This Process 123 framework handles the entire treatment cycle—including nitrogen removal—within a single, compact system.
It meets U.S. EPA effluent standards (BOD 30, SS 30) with significantly simpler infrastructure than conventional systems.
➡ This integration reduces the typical 6–10 hour treatment time to just 3 hours and cuts energy consumption by more than 60%.

The World’s Most Compact & Sustainable WWTP
By applying twp™ in warm-climate developing regions—such as Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Sub-Saharan Africa—BKT enables:
- 50–70% reduction in treatment time
- 60%+ reduction in energy use
- Significantly lower GHG emissions (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O)
- Eligibility for carbon credits and climate financing
- The smallest WWTP footprint in the world
twp™ and the Tomorrow Water Project
twp™ is more than just a process—it’s a core component of the Tomorrow Water Project, BKT’s global initiative aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through energy-efficient treatment, compact design, and climate-conscious engineering, twp™ empowers developing nations to leapfrog outdated systems and build resilient, future-ready infrastructure from the start.
