Named a Top Global Performer in the 2024 UN SDG Index, BKT continues to lead in sustainability and wastewater innovation.

UN SDGs Association Releases 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI)
“Co-Flow Campus Drives the Global Expansion of Korea’s Water Industry”
Global water and wastewater solutions provider BKT has been named a “Top Global Performer” for the sixth consecutive year in the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI), released by the UN SDGs Association.
The SDGBI is a key global index that evaluates corporate performance in sustainable management. This year, the index analyzed 1,000 global companies and 300 major Korean firms. Among the 300 companies selected for the global list, only 14 were from Korea.
Despite continued challenges like economic stagnation and the climate crisis, companies that actively pursued sustainability stood out. In contrast, those that viewed ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policies as a burden failed to make the top ranks. Companies that balanced sustainability with business resilience gained recognition.
BKT was selected alongside global leaders such as Siemens, Walmart, Alphabet, Apple, Samsung Electronics, and CJ CheilJedang. The UN SDGs Association highlighted BKT’s Co-Flow Campus as “an innovative model that simultaneously achieves sustainability and economic value.”
BKT was also recognized for its contributions to the UN SDGs, including:
- Ensuring access to clean water and sanitation
- Expanding the use of renewable energy
- Improving energy efficiency
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
In 2016, BKT proposed the Tomorrow Water Project on the UN SDGs platform, introducing a new paradigm for wastewater treatment: transforming cost-heavy plants into revenue-generating facilities. Since then, the company has led environmental innovation and climate action through the Co-Flow Campus and twp™, a wastewater treatment solution tailored for developing countries.
The Co-Flow Campus is a groundbreaking urban infrastructure model where water, energy, data, and economic value circulate together. It integrates:
- Biogas facilities that recover organics from wastewater
- Smart farms that reuse nitrogen and phosphorus
- Data centers cooled by treated wastewater
- Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for sustainable energy
Meanwhile, twp™ is optimized for equatorial developing countries. It cuts construction and O&M costs and land use by over 50% compared to conventional wastewater plants. It also enables climate action by generating carbon credits. BKT plans to roll out this technology in countries like Saudi Arabia, India, and Vietnam.
“Co-Flow Campus and twp™ are breakthrough solutions for addressing climate and environmental challenges in developing countries,” said Dongwoo Kim, CEO of BKT.
“At a time when international technology transfers are slowing, strategically leveraging Korea’s EDCF (Economic Development Cooperation Fund) allows us to align future-oriented government policy with private-sector innovation—expanding Korea’s water industry globally.”
In 2024, BKT was also designated as an “Innovative Water Company” by Korea’s Ministry of Environment. CEO Dongwoo Kim became the first environmental entrepreneur to receive the Order of Industrial Service Merit (Bronze Tower) and has been named among the Top 100 Global Sustainable Leaders for five consecutive years and the Top 25 Korean Economic Leaders of 2024, cementing his international leadership status.
